The Pattern Expansion Module (PEM) is an optional add-on for LC4500 products.  On PEMs shipped prior to 9/2021 there is an error in a hardware configuration setting that may cause intermittent resets on some LC4500 units, resulting in the projector resetting to the default power-up splash screen display instead of operating normally.

How to tell if a PEM is affected by the configuration error

  • Power up the LC4500 normally and wait for the PEM to finish booting.
  • Using an oscilloscope or voltmeter, measure the voltage on the exposed pin P9-42 on the PEM.

If the voltage is below 2.5V then the PEM hardware is misconfigured and the following procedure may be used to update the settings.

How to update the PEM hardware configuration settings

(Note: This procedure only needs to be done one time per PEM.)

  • Download and install the PuTTY client here:  https://www.putty.org/
  • Log in to the Keynote customer portal and navigate to LC4500 > PEM Software > Firmware
  • Download LC4500_PEM_DTS_Update.zip and extract the files.
  • Power up the LC4500 and wait for the assigned IP address to be displayed on the DMD.
  • Edit the file putFiles.bat to include the IP address displayed on the DMD.  This address must be edited in two places in the .bat file.
  • Run the edited batch file putFiles.bat

How to confirm the PEM hardware configuration is fixed

  • Remove power from the LC4500, then reapply power and wait for the PEM to finish booting.
  • Using an oscilloscope or voltmeter, measure the voltage on the exposed pin P9-42 on the PEM.

If the configuration is fixed then the voltage on P9-42 should be 3.0V or greater.
